SMS
Competitions are by far the most popular, and well
known, method of mobile marketing. This type of
promotion is a great brand building exercise as
it typically involves either a purchase or a brand
related question as part of the promotion. Typically
SMS competitions are Free to enter – though
we do provide the option of billing the entrant
a fixed fee to enter the competition.
The popularity of entering competitions by SMS is
growing every day. Entry is quick and easy therefore
response rates are often extremely high. To encourage
user participation, mobile prizes can be offered
which include mobile vouchers, ringtones, logos
and games.
There are two main types of SMS Competition, Random
Draw (Text to win) and Pre-selected Draw (Instant
Win)
|
Random
Draw (Text to Win) SMS Competition
This is where multiple customers can enter and a
select number of winners are chosen at random
| 1.
The entrant texts a keyword to a shortcode,
e.g. KEYWORD to 88600 |
| 2.
The text hits the database, prompting an automated
message which might say: ‘Thank you
for entering this competition. The winner(s)
will be contacted in x days…”
|
| 3.
Data is collated throughout the competition
|
| 4.
At the end of the competition period the client
or Blue Iceberg manually select the winner(s)
|
| 5.
A confirmation text with instructions on how
to claim their prize is sent to the winner(s)
(Note: If the prize is mobile content such
as a ringtone or a logo, a WAP link is included
in the message which enables the customer
to download the content). |

|
Pre-selected
Draw (Instant Win)
This is where unique codes are selected prior to
a campaign starting and customers are informed immediately
if they have won. Unique codes can be printed on
packaging or included within packs, for example
on each bottle or packet.
| 1.
The client ensures a unique code is printed
on each bottle/packet |
| 2.
The Customer texts KEYWORD + their code to
88600 |
| 3.
The text hits the database, which then pulls
the code to verify its authenticity |
| 4.
An instant, automated response is sent to
the customer telling them if they have won
or not |
5.
Depending on the code entered the response
may contain:
• An error response, e.g. “The
code you entered was invalid, please try
again”
• An invitation to play again, e.g.
“Thanks for playing, unfortunately
you have been unsuccessful on this occasion,
please try again.”
• Winning texts including instructions
on how to claim the prize e.g. “Congratulations
- You are a winner! Please contact us on
012345 to claim your prize!”
